Heat Pumps

Heat Pump Installation

Heat pumps are basically refrigerators for your house, but they do double-duty because they can cool and heat your home! Heat pumps are an energy efficient alternative to having separate heating and cooling solutions, and oftentimes they can save you money on your monthly energy bill!

Advantages of Heat Pumps

  • Electric heat pumps are among the most energy efficient way to cool and heat your home. That means you use less electricity, which means you pay less on your energy bill. And as an added bonus, using less energy means you’re helping the planet!
  • Though they have “heat” in the name, heat pumps do double duty, heating and cooling your home.
  • Heat pumps don’t pump out dry air into your home during the cold months. That means less concern about dry skin and humidifiers.
  • Heat pump owners always remark on how evenly the warm or cold air is distributed throughout their home. No more heat spikes or cold rooms.
  • Because the compressor unit is outdoors and the heat pump uses electricity, they are one of the quietest home HVAC solutions available.
  • They don’t need ducting so they are faster and less disruptive to install.

Disadvantages of Heat Pumps

  • Though heat pumps save you lots of money over time, they are usually a large initial investment. This scares some homeowners away from making the switch, but over time you will more than makeup for the initial cost with your utility bill savings.
  • Heat pumps need regular maintenance to make sure they run well for a long time. East Coast Mechanical recommends having yearly or bi-yearly maintenance check-ups for your heat pump.
  • If sub-zero temperatures are frequent where you live, your heat pump may run into electrical problems. However, in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, this shouldn’t be a problem.
